BTU / Energy Meters
A multi-jet water meter is a highly accurate mechanical flow meter that splits incoming water into several balanced jets to evenly drive a central impeller. This design reduces wear and tear, making it a popular, durable, and cost-effective choice for residential and light commercial applications. How They Work
BTU meters consist of three main components:
Flow Sensors: Measure the volume of liquid (usually water) passing through the system.
Temperature Sensors: A pair of sensors that measure the temperature difference (Δ T) between the inlet and outlet of the heat exchanger.
Calculator: An integrated microprocessor that continuously processes the flow rate and Δ T to calculate the total heat energy transferred.
Types of BTU Meters
In-Line Meters: Installed directly into the pipeline; usually mechanical (turbine or paddlewheel) or electromagnetic (magmeters).
Clamp-on/Strap-on Meters: Ultrasonic sensors that attach to the outside of the pipe. Ideal for retrofitting existing systems without cutting into pipes.
Common Applications
Commercial HVAC: Metering individual tenants in office buildings for chilled or hot water billing.
District Energy: Tracking thermal energy supplied from a central plant to multiple buildings.
Efficiency Monitoring: Identifying heat loss and optimizing the performance of hydronic systems.
